This is a charming and well done Antique Old Primitive American Folk Art Forest Elk Landscape Oil Painting on thick, commercial grade canvas, depicting a bucolic woodland scene, showing a large bellowing elk with prominent antlers to the left of the scene, a serene lake in the foreground, and a prominent mountain vista in the distance. Surrounding this image on all sides are tall, old growth trees, which rise high above the forested plain. Signed and dated: "C.H. Schmidt 1926" in the lower left corner. I could not find any information on this artist, but perhaps you know more about them or their work? Approximately 24 1/4 x 28 1/4 inches. Good condition for nearly a century of age, with moderate stable craquelure along the edges of the canvas, a few speckles of paint loss, and mild edge wear throughout (please see photos.)
