This is an exceptional antique Samson charger decorated with bianco sopra bianco, flowering branches and floral sprays around a well executed armorial of Edward VII when Prince of Wales. The armorial features the British Royal Family coat of arms with an inescutcheon of the Kingdom of Saxony, which Edward claimed through his father, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Prince Consort to Queen Victoria). The armorial is encircled by a garter, an emblem of the honorific Order of the Garter and below is the traditional motto of the Prince of Wales, ICH Dien (“I Serve”). A similar armorial representation on a Samson cashe pot is currently in the collection of the Royal Trust and a picture is included for reference (not offered or available for sale). This piece is made by Samson of Paris, a renowned manufacturer of porcelain in the 19th century. It is unmarked, but design is consistent with other Samson armorial pieces made in the late 19th century. This charger is a stunning cabinet piece and would be a unique addition to any antique collection. The quality and condition make it a true piece of art. The charger measures approximately 17.75 inches in diameter, and 2.5 inches deep. The item(s) are antique and sold as is/as found.
