The engraving on this salver was likely added in the 19th century for Francis Napier, 10th Lord Napier and 1st Baron Ettrick 1819-1898. In 1864 Francis Napier was made a Knight of the Thistle (to which the thistle surmounting the coronet is likely an allusion).
