Superb early George II sterling silver pepper pot / sugar caster / muffineer made by Samuel Wood, the premier maker of casters during this period. This fine Georgian English sterling silver caster, dated 1744, features a baluster-shaped body adorned with hand-chased floral and scroll decoration. The piece stands on a raised, round pedestal base with a fluted and ruffled design. The pull-off lid is beautifully pierced with intricate spiral panels of alternating shapes, decorative floral patterns, and engraved detailing, and is topped with a steeple finial. A full set of clear hallmarks is present on the underside of the base. Made by Samuel Wood and fully assayed for London, 1744 239.19 g / 7.69 t oz 17 cm tall 7 cm across widest point Very good antique condition, small black marks to body.
