These lanterns are frequently referred to as a "Paul Revere" style lantern. This is a smaller lantern with a large tin loop at the top. I believe this may be a processional lantern that was meant to be held by a wrist. These lanterns were typically made, and used, during the 18th and early 19th centuries. This one has what appears to be an old gold paint or color to it. It is an old color not a newer paint. It is in very good antique condition, with the normal wear that would be expected from a piece this old. It is in very solid condition. It measures 8 inches tall, not including the wrist loop, and 12 inches tall including the loop. It has a diameter of 3 3/4 inches at the base of the tin cap, which is its widest point.
