Buka basketry originated and gets its name from Buka Island on the northern end of Bougainville which is now considered a part of Papua New Guinea previously part of the Solomon Islands. This basket has a nice organic shape and is quite rigid and stiff and very finely woven from multicoloured cane. It has a tight fitting lid and was collected on a cocoa plantation pre 1950's and measures 49cm in total height.
