Antique Yellow Ware Sponged Spittoon

Historically these were also called a cuspidor. It is finished in a traditional brown sponge ware mottled drip glaze. This distinctive wide, flanged rim leading down into a bulbous body was intentionally designed to catch fluids when placed on floors or tables in homes, hotels, or saloons during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is in very good condition with no chips or hairlines at all. It measures 6 3/4 inches in diameter at the top and it is 4 1/4 inches tall.
