Handsome copper-plate engraved map in original hand color: Russie d'Europe, printed 150 years ago. The coverage area includes the European portion of the Russian Empire, from the Baltic Sea to the Ural Mountains, south to the Aras River and the border between Armenia and Turkey. There is excellent detail throughout, including railroads, cities, towns, political and administrative boundaries, and natural features, with topography drawn in relief. The coverage area includes present-day Finland, Poland, Ukraine, Crimea, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Caspian Sea, Minsk, Bialystok, Kazan, Lake Ladoga, Kherson, the Black Sea, Novgorod, Lublin, Kharkov, Georgia, Smolensk, and the Caucasus. The image area measures 50.8 x 39.1 cm [20" x 15½"]. Longitude is measured from Greenwich, and the distance scale is calibrated in English miles. The map was drawn by Edouard Desbuissons and engraved by Alexander Sengteller, with lettering by Isidore Dalmont. It was published by J. Migeon in Géographie Universelle, Atlas Migeon, Paris, 1874. Condition: It is in very good condition, with light spotting in the margins and no rips or tears.
