Much of the fascination with collecting truly antique items is the nature of the items as they evolve over time. Contemporary writing utensils may be impressive, but cannot compare with the unique items of yesteryear, such as the feather-and-inkwell ink pens -- or better yet -- items such as the tiny delicate pencil holders that were made of precious metals and were prevalent during Victorian times. Here is one such lovely item: a Victorian sterling silver with the attached convenience pin that was used to attach the item to the lady or gentleman's clothing. (Please note that there is no pencil included.) The intricate patterned design on the sterling silver composition makes it a unique piece. The original owner's initials are engraved in extremely elegant script that appears to be J.A.L., although that L could pass as a P or an S. The lid unscrews to reveal a very slender channel wherein the tiny pencil would be inserted into the cap so that the body of the pencil was hidden inside the beautiful 4.25" of fancy scrolled ornate item.
