JOHN HENRY BELTER'S ROSALIE PATTERN FURNITURE is named for the mansion "Rosalie" in Natchez, Mississippi. Furniture in this pattern was purchased new from Belter for the historic home in 1859, and still remains in the double front parlors. See the book ROSALIE A MANSION OF NATCHEZ by Lucianne Wood and Sarah Webster Harrison for illustrations of that furniture. A sofa in this same pattern is also illustrated on page 86 of AMERICAN FURNITURE OF THE 19th CENTURY, 1840-1880 by Dubrow, and on page 60, illustration number 32 of THE FURNITURE OF JOHN HENRY BELTER AND THE ROCOCO REVIVAL by Schwartz, Stanek and True. Set was recently inherited and has been immaculately cared for - in great condition! Please note antique furniture is roughly 160+ years old. Some small dents/scuffs may exist. Small spots on fabric in center of sofa - can be seen in photo.
