Antique Tin Lighting, Candleholder ?

What i know: it's old, it's tin, it's interesting. what i don't know: it's original use. my friend who is an antique dealer says it's better than I think it is. Still, I would love to know its original use. It measures 7 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter not including the handles. What are those inverted chimneys on the sides? I don't know. I used it to hold a jar candle. If you would like more info or more pictures, please let me know.
