'Brecknockshire'Antique lithographic map with original outline hand colour, 1832Caption below picture: 'Brecknockshire' The map was published within the 1832 Reform Act for the purposes of showing the proposed electoral constituencies within the county. Most counties were split into divisions (shown by the red line), and each division was further split into electoral wards (shown by the brown lines). The towns were to be represented by borough constituencies, shown in the map by red circles; the largest of these (for which the red dot is surrounded by an outer circle) elected two Members of Parliament, the smaller boroughs elected a single MP. The polling stations are shown as light blue squares. In Wales, included in the electorate of some urban boroughs were some smaller outlying towns or "contributory boroughs", represented on the maps by red crescents, pointing in the direction of their principal borough.
