Federal .58 “Star Base” – Wilderness Battlefield – 6656
A .58 Federal issue for the rifled musket. It has the “star” base used to press the bullet in the manufacturing process. These were produced at the Washington Arsenal in Washington, D.C. Found on Wilderness Battlefield in Virginia. The white patina is due to oxidation in the ground which can vary according to the soil. It would have used a paper cartridge. The box size is 2 1/4” x 3 1/4”. The relic comes in the white display box (with lid) with the description as shown. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated.
