Kuba Ngaady A Mwaash Impressive royal helmet mask of the Kuba people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The mask is carved of dark wood. The lower part of the face is incised with a criss-cross pattern, and the upper part is clad in sheets of metal. The mask is decorated with multi-colored glass beads, cowrie shells, seeds, animal hide, and woven raffia textile. Base circumference is 35 ins. Early to mid 20th century. From the estate of a discerning collector of African ethnographic art.
