PARIS: HUBERT JAILLOT, 1692-1699 Index page from a 2 volumes, elephant folio (635 x 497mm.), hand-coloured engraved architectural title, and engraved table of maps with large vignettes (the list of maps pasted on) in each volume, letterpress title in volume one, 133 engraved maps hand-coloured in outline (some double-page or folding), Initially, Jaillot worked in partnership with the sons, and heirs, of Nicolas Sanson to produce a world atlas - Atlas Nouveau - in elephant folio format, in paper size the largest atlas published to date, and completed in 1681. This edition appears to have been printed or sold in Amsterdam by Pierre Mortier circa 1693-1699.
