Rare & Unusual Antique American Folk Art Child Riding Horse Hooked Rug Carpet What I have to offer for your viewing pleasure here is this beautiful antique American Folk Art hooked rug! A rare piece of American Folk art with its unusual subject matter of a child, likely a young girl riding a horse. It is usually one or the other, a child or an animal but not the combination of both probably meaning this was done for a family of some financial means, one that could afford a horse for their daughter. It is beautifully rendered in bright, vivid colors with several different types of flowers on blue scrolling vines with pale green leafs flowing along the border. The young lady sits atop a white horse on a red and yellow saddle in a dress the same pale green as the leaves with a pattern of vertical bright yellow stripes and a red riding top that matches the saddle. All of this was done on an ink black background which makes everything stand out brilliantly! The detail is amazing and it is an exceptionally well done hooked rug, my description and photos do not do it justice as it is absolutely stunning in person! It is in superb overall condition for its age with some typical wear to the gold paint on the frame, the backing board likely needs to be replaced as it is discolored from what looks like an old stain in the bottom right corner.
