An unusual 19thc Cameo brooch. A hardstone cameo of a Roman soldier wearing a helmet with a griffin to the side, set within an enamelled white and blue border which is framed with enamelled scroll work set with cabochon paste stones in red, green and blue. Enamelled to the back with pin fastener and gold pin chain. Some wear to the enamel work, visible under an eye glass. No makers marks. Silver mount but not tested. Approx. 2.25" high x 1.75" wide.
