EXTRA NICE LARGE PICTORIAL EXAMPLE. CAUTION: EBAY IS NOW LOADED WITH EVERY KIND OF AFRICAN , PAKISTANI, ETC. BASKETS BEING LABELED AS WEDDING TRAYS, NAVAJO BASKETS ETC. ...THE GREAT MAJORITY OF THESE are NOT what they portend to be. THIS ONE IS A REAL one attributed to a famous family of Navajo weavers that is very well made, and sturdy compared to others we just mentioned above. It has the classic star pattern with twelve points as wel las two large pictorial representations of what APPEARS TO BE RAINBOW GIRL AND RAINBOW MAN. It is made of sumac and dyed sumac on a three rod willow coiled foundation with a nice herringbone rim. These are typically made by the San Juan Paiutes who sell them to the Navajo who use them in various "sings" and other religious / social rites. The shaman is then paid with the baskets.
